The short version: your account, password, notes and photos stay on your device. If you choose Share Anonymously, the app sends the bottles on your lists and your ratings, under a random ID that is never tied to your name or email, to build WhiskeyWorth’s community ratings. You can say no, or turn it off later, and turning it off erases what was shared. Guests never share. We use no ad tracking and embed no third-party SDKs.
All of the following is stored only on your iPhone, in the app’s private storage and the iOS Keychain. It is never transmitted to us or anyone else:
Your collection, lists and ratings also live on your device; if you share anonymously, a copy is sent as described below. Because the data above never reaches us, we cannot see it, share it, sell it, or recover it — it is yours alone. iOS includes it in your own encrypted iPhone backups (iCloud, or an encrypted backup on your computer), which is how it moves with you to a new phone.
After you create an account, WhiskeyWorth asks once whether to share anonymously. If you agree, the app sends:
This is stored in our database (Supabase) under a random identifier created for your account. It is never sent with your name, email, password, notes or photos, and the identifier cannot be traced back to you from our side. We use it to show community ratings and how many people own or hunt each bottle, and to understand which bottles matter to collectors. Other users see only totals and averages — never anyone’s individual list. We do not sell it, share it with advertisers, or use it to track you across other apps or websites.
Turn it off any time in Account → Share Anonymously. Turning it off, or deleting your account, erases the shared copy and the random identifier from our database. Guest mode never shares.
WhiskeyWorth downloads its public whiskey catalog (bottle names, prices, tasting notes) and bottle images from our hosted database and image service. These requests carry no personal information and no identifiers — only a public, read-only access key that is identical for every copy of the app. Our database is configured so devices can only read from it.
A future version may let you offer your own photo for a bottle that has no catalog image. That feature is switched off today, and nothing in the current app can upload a photo. If it ships, this policy and the App Store privacy details will be updated first, and the app will ask for your consent at the moment of submission. How it would work:
If you choose Sign in with Apple, Apple shares the name and email you approve (which may be a private relay address). That information is used to create your on-device account and is stored only on your device, like every other account.
Account → Delete Account erases your account and everything attached to it — collection, notes, ratings, and photos — immediately and permanently, along with anything you shared anonymously and its random identifier (if your phone is offline, that server erase happens the next time the app opens). Deleting the app removes your collection; iOS can keep your sign-in details until the app is reinstalled, when WhiskeyWorth clears them on first launch — or use Delete Account first to erase everything at once.
WhiskeyWorth is intended for people of legal drinking age (21+ in the United States). It is an informational app: it sells nothing and facilitates no purchase or transfer of alcohol.
If a future version shares anything beyond what is described here, we will update this policy and the App Store privacy details first, and the app will ask for your consent in plain language before anything new is sent.
